MEET THE JURY
We are pleased to collaborate with filmmakers Mounia Meddour (“Papicha”, “Houria”), Funa Maduka (“Waiting for Hassana”), and Camille Griffin (“The Silent Night”) as our inaugural all female filmmaker jury for the Cannes Screenplay List. 🙌
Mounia Meddour is an award-winning filmmaker known for “Papicha”, which premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, was nominated at the Oscars for Best International Film and won two Cesar Awards for Best First Film and Promising Actress for Lyna Khoudri (“The French Dispatch”). Mounia’s second feature HOURIA, a tale of sorority about a dancer’s dream to join the Algerian National Ballet, is currently playing in French theatres! 🎥
“With ‘Houria,’ I hope to inspire more women to tell the story of ambivalent, complex female characters in films […] there’s “still a long way to debunk misogynistic stereotypes and biais in society so having more women and non-binary writers write their own stories is the best way to help change perceptions.”
Other jurors include Nigerian filmmaker Funa Maduka, former Head of International Original Films at Netflix, known for her documentary "Waiting for Hassana," who was recently a jury member at Sundance 2023 in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition; and British filmmakerCamille Griffin, known for her horror drama "The Silent Night," starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Lily Rose Depp, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
