VANESSA KIRBY joins the jury for Wscripted’s Fourth Cannes Screenplay List

Vanessa Kirby has joined the jury for the fourth edition of Wscripted’s Cannes Screenplay List presented in collaboration with MUBI.

First inaugurated in 2021, the Cannes Screenplay List features outstanding scripts by women and non-binary writers and writer-directors. Every year, the highly publicized, industry renowned list is pitched to producers during the Cannes Film Market to expand deal opportunities for the nominated talents.

Vanessa Kirby is an internationally acclaimed actress, known for her BAFTA-winning role of Princess Margaret in THE CROWN and her performance in PIECES OF A WOMAN, for which she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 2020 Venice Film Festival and received nominations from the Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and SAG Awards. In 2021, Kirby co-founded her production company Aluna Entertainment, alongside former Film4 exec Lauren Dark, with the mission of championing female creatives and stories. Aluna Entertainment secured a multi-year first look deal with Netflix shortly after to create female led cinema and television, who are developing a number of projects alongside the most exciting filmmakers with the same mission.

It is a pleasure to join Wscripted on this brilliant initiative. There is still such a clear disparity between the number of male and female led projects, and I am so pleased to unite with Wscripted to support and elevate the next generation of formidable female talent that I know are going to shape the cinema of the future.

THE WRITERS LAB IS ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS!

Our friends at The Writers Lab are celebrating their 10th anniversary! Submissions for their 2024 US lab are open February 20th.

Supported by Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, The Writers Lab is the only program in the world devoted exclusively to script and career development for women and nonbinary writers 40+.

International submissions of both Features and Pilots (both 1-hour and ½-hour) in English will be considered. They will select approximately 12 promising writers for an in-person retreat in New York in November, 2024. (Dates subject to change.)

During the four-day Lab, Mentors and Writers engage in rigorous script development through one-on-one mentor meetings, small group and panel discussions, peer workshops, story rooms, and more. In the following months of ongoing development, TWL mentors guide writers through the revision process with actionable feedback and offer strategic advice and advocacy with the help of partners, industry leaders, and their talented peers. Previous TWL lab winners have gone on to make The Black List, secure management, and have their screenplays produced.
