On November 7, Wscripted joined l'ARP for a debate titled “An Ethical AI, Respectful of Copyright and at the Service of Creation: A Little, Passionately, Not at All?” The 2.5-hour debate examined the critical and evolving role of AI in the audiovisual and cinematic industries. Panelists included distinguished experts: Alexandra Bensamoun (University of Paris-Saclay, French Ministry of Culture), Laura Blum-Smith (WGA West), Laurence Farreng (European Parliament), Marc Missonnier (Moana Films), Alexandre Pachulski (Screenwriter and AI expert), Patrick Raude (SACD), Benoît Tabaka (Google France) and Ellie Jamen (Wscripted).

The discussion opened with a focus on the European AI Act and the urgent need for fair compensation agreements between rights holders and AI companies. Panelists also explored AI's practical applications for producers and screenwriters, emphasizing ethical considerations and the need for responsible AI practices.

In line with these discussions, we shared Wscripted's vision for ethical AI—a technology designed to protect copyright holders while advancing the industry by addressing inefficiencies, such as streamlining project review and promoting diverse writers through Wscripted+. How is Wscripted+ respecting copyright law?

Wscripted+ operates in full compliance with the principles of “fair use” and “derivative works” as outlined by copyright law (17 U.S. Code § 101 and 107). Using Wscripted+ is comparable to saving materials on your computer and asking an intern to create a coverage. The key difference is that your content is securely stored in your private portal on Wscripted+, and you can leverage AI to assist in generating coverage or promoting your materials while ensuring copyrighted materials remain protected.

How does Wscripted+ protect my scripts or books?

Wscripted+ is designed with the confidentiality of your projects in mind, partnering with AWS as our trusted cloud provider to ensure the highest level of security. When you use Wscripted+, you maintain control over who can access your projects on the platform, ensuring that copyright owners are protected. Unlike email, where you have no control over whether recipients use AI tools like ChatGPT, Wscripted+ is specifically built to safeguard writers' works and copyrighted materials.

Is Wscripted+ using my project to train its AI models?

At Wscripted, we prioritize copyright protection and ethical AI practices. We use pre-trained large language models (LLMs) and store these models in escrow accounts to ensure that user data cannot be used for retraining or as training data, preserving the integrity of copyrighted works.

How is Wscripted+ an ethical AI technology?

Wscripted+ adheres to strict AI ethics principles to protect content copyright. Our technology serves as an objective tool, curating a diverse array of projects based on the creative interests of each member rather than scores and subjective rankings determined by readers or algorithms.
