Celebrating Sarah Polley and the Oscar Win!
We were thrilled to see Sarah Polley win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for her adaptation of Miriam Toews’s novel “Women Talking”.
WOMEN TALKING is Polley’s 4th feature. Sarah Polley's first feature AWAY FROM HER - an adaptation of a short story by Alice Munro, for which she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2008 - is available for streaming on MUBI!
SYNOPSIS: Canadian director Sarah Polley—an actor since childhood—emerged as one of the filmmaking voices of her generation with this startling, mature drama. Adapted from an Alice Munro story, it got Polley an Oscar nomination for her screenplay—with another nod going to the film’s star, Julie Christie.
“If you have the opportunity to do things which have some meaning, I don’t know why you would choose to do other things. I understand that many people don’t have that opportunity, but I do right now so I’m happy to hold out for the films which have something to contribute.”
